Inclusive Language Training – Empowering Employees With Long-Term Conditions

Do you know how to talk about long-term conditions in the workplace? Ensuring your language use is inclusive and up-to-date is one of the most impactful ways to show your commitment to supporting people in your workforce who are managing such conditions. Astriid’s Inclusive Language Training exists to help you do just that, with an emphasis on empowering employees with long-term conditions and how to make individuals feel seen and valued.

Delivered in webinar format by award-winning communication consultant Pippa Stacey, this session dives into the key language use surrounding long-term conditions, including factors that are often omitted from broader disability equality training. Through the session we will cover:

  • The importance of using inclusive language and how to take the lead from individuals
  • Key definitions and terminology around disability, long-term conditions, and energy limiting conditions, and the important differences between them
  • Acceptable and unacceptable words and phrases, including the ‘why’ behind each one
  • Terminology and definitions around using mobility aids and accommodating access needs, including dynamic disabilities and ambulatory wheelchair users
  • Existing narrative and stereotypes around long-term conditions, and an introduction to ableism
  • How our language use can debunk unhelpful or inaccurate stereotypes and take a more empowering stance instead

Created by experts by experience in long-term conditions, Astriid focusses on creative and person-led solutions to breaking down barriers in the workplace. Join us for our next Inclusive Language Training session to help your organisation become a frontrunner in this area and be part of the movement to make the world of work more accepting and accommodating for all.
